If you choose to use an email address and user name that have not been used for bicycle-related activity and are not otherwise obviously associated with the local area, this may keep your request from being approved. Due to the constant attempts of spammer exploits to gain forum membership, all requests are screened against a list of known spammers. Known spammers are silently rejected.

If the spammer check comes up clear, the address and ID are checked in Google. If the requester is unknown to Google or turns up with nothing related to bicycles or the local area, the request is likely to be held for rechecking later. There are over a dozen requests currently in that state dating back into May 2009.

This sounds interesting.

I see that the ride is described as "Class B. Regroup ride." I'm a newbie here: is there someplace I can look to find out what this means?

Adrianne

I might be able to do this ride and I am also on a trike. We should form a trike brigade. Wink

Good idea, bentkat. I'm not sure I'll ride the trike, but I just might, if the route isn't too hilly. And yeah, we can form a trike brigade, even if there are just two of us Smiley

Yeah, the link *says* 9AM, but you know it's "Recumbent Standard Time".  :Smiley

Actually, the meeting spot is the same as we use for the rest of the RAGS rides, but the Rites of Spring starts at 10AM to allow for extra perpetration time (or an extra waffle). That's a long way of saying: the title is correct, the link is wrong.

I'll try to get around to posting a new announcement, but in the meantime I'm going to exercise the capabilities of the new forum:

Annual Rites Of Spring bicycle ride
Saturday, March 21th, 2009
Starts at 10AM or thereabouts
Gateway Transit Center
(meet in the south parking lot)

Celebrate the Vernal Equinox!
Dance and cavort among the bloomin' flowers!
Come out and worship the single ray of sunshine
that heralds the coming of Spring!

13 mile Slug and 37 mile greater-than-Slug-but-still-casual options
Odd bicycle enthusiasts of all sorts encouraged to attend.
Costumery and bufoonery welcome!

Well, I stole the "Ride Ratings" from the Vancouver Bicycle Club years ago, but they've switched to a different system, so it really doesn't mean much anymore.  Essentially, "Class B" is 25 to 40 miles, "Regroup" means we inchworm our way around- the majority ride to stopping place, we wait for the last rider to catch up and recover, then we set off again.

At least, that's the theory. The reality is more like this:

Thanks so much for the information, Jeff.

The video had me laughing out loud, and now my husband is wondering just what I'm up to  Cheesy

Well, as I mentioned last week, I am making plans to come downriver with the Quest and join in this ride.

Looking forward to a relaxing ride, taking it easy. (which might be the hard part for me, the Quest just wants to be pushed hard)  Also, fair warning here, it will be my first 'group ride' with the Quest. Don't expect the interactions to be too much different than when I had the lowracer though; just sitting lower than most folks. And, well, a big white shell around me.   Grin

This is a fun ride in the presence of great company - I did it way back before becoming 'bent. The route is pretty easy going, with the last couple miles climbing back up from the river on the 205 bike path that gives you a bit of a workout. I seem to take honors of being the slow-pokey-ist, but no worries, it's meant to be a good stretch-your-legs season opener.

Jeff - you have a collection of photos from Rites of Springs past, including all kinds of weather. Perhaps you can link them for the uninitiated!

Looking forward to not falling off my bike -  Cheesy

Well...    plans change.

Won't be getting delivery of the trailer until Tuesday, or later. Then still need to assemble it. And get it licensed. And need to fix the wiring on Torka's car before I can borrow it since I don't have a hitch yet. And...   yeah.

I'll be down often enough, but kinda bummed, wanted to get the Quest out on a good friendly group ride, see what its like on the trail with other folk.

But, I'll be down just two weeks later. For the Estacada TT.  I hope.   Undecided

Darn -- sorry to hear that you won't be riding with us. Happy tinkering with the car and trailer Smiley

Well since my work on the velo isn't finished I removed the rear suspension unit and reinstalled the back wheel. Just finished putting everything back together. It's 8:45am and I'm happy with the work done this morning. Now I just need to get dressed to ride. One final look at the calendar of the home page, whoops it's out of date. On to the calendar on the forum page and I don't see the ride posted. There it is. Next weekend? It can't be. The weather is rainy. My seasonal allergies have kicked into full force. It's time to ride. I get it, now I know the problem and it is that I don't have to work this weekend. Seems like all the fun rides happen when I'm scheduled to work. Oh well off to ride by myself then. If I can't make it next weekend on the real Rights of Spring ride, hope you all have fun.
