Just because Diane reminded me of something: do we want to start this at the Home Depot at I-205 & Airport Way? This makes it easier for folks to get back to their cars (if they drive there) because we don't have to climb up the I-205 bridge at the end of a long day.

My vote would be, yes, to the Home Depot parking lot. I much prefer to climb the 205 bridge at the start of a ride rather than the end of the ride.
Thanks for asking :-) Edna

OK, done. I just have to update the BoG webpage.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Speaking of enjoying detours per Lonnie's foot notes, east bound I-5 just after Warrendale, is not bike-able. There is no shoulder due to construction / repair of a bridge, and very dangerous. I sweated back-tracking today. Only option - which may or may not be legal - is to go east on the westbound I-5 shoulder to , assuming it is not also undergoing construction. Or, make it a 65 miler instead of a 85 miler by backtracking as well . . . . . Hans

No fears, unless something has changed. We do I-84 WEST bound, and it was just fine a few weeks ago. I believe Nick and Conchi ran into your eastbound problem on their tour and ended up TAKING THE LANE ON I-84. Not a nice situation.

Like Kirke said, we're going westbound on the I-84 shoulder towards Warrendale. With luck, they won't be working on that side of the I-84 anytime soon. FWIW: Diane and I are planning to ride out to Multnomah Falls and probably further on Sunday unless someone comes up with a better idea. And another reminder: we're going to start from the parking lot of the Home Depot at Airport Way and I-205. I haven't gotten around to changing the BoG web page (been staring at too many computers lately!).

I don't know if I'm going to be able to add this to the BoG web page, but this is the route for Sunday: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/318638It says it comes out a little shorter than previous- about 84 miles, probably because I cut off the loop through East Vancouver. We're going to ride Evergreen Highway straight into Camas. Comments? Questions?

Have fun tomorrow - hope it's not too hot for ya! We took the Trike-Trailer-Giro parade down to the waterfront to the Blues Fest & Saturday Market - our out-of-shape selves feel pretty wiped out just coming back to the Tabor neighborhood. Meanwhile, Alison just called saying she put in back-to-back centuries (imperial, not metric!) in the pouring down rain in Indiana. She's going to be one tough cookie when she gets to Seattle Barbara

Uhhh... yep! Glad y'all made it- this may have been the biggest BoG ride ever. There were 19 people signed in, plus 2 late kitties. I need to redo the BoG ride web page with the new cue sheet and starting point.

I'm going to do a stream-of-consciousness ride review... 'cause my brain be fuzzy! It was good seeing John Climaldi, even if he was riding an upright tandem (with Shoko). But it was a Vision- but a Santana Vision! I think starting at the bottom of the I-205 bridge worked really well. It shortened things a bit, and Evergreen Highway is really quiet that early in the morning. The pavement sucks, though. The climb along Washougal River Road gets easier every year. How was the Cape Horn side? The warm air really helped when we got started. I was wondering if it would get too hot, but I was comfortable the whole day. It actually cooled off as we were heading for Troutdale. I saw that a couple people had printed the Bikely map, and John (other John- Tweety's friend) said it kept him on course. I know the route's familiar to most folks, but... did anyone have any problems with the map? Diane was rushing a little to get back to Troutdale- milk shakes at the General Store! A good thing too- my blood sugar was getting kind of low. The milk shake took care of that! Speaking of fuzzy- anyone get a cottonwood fluff stuck to them?

Actually, that John had trouble with your map. After the stop in Troutdale, at the General Store, the cue sheet didn't say anything about turning right at the light to go down the hill toward I-84. John has never ridden out in Troutdale before. He said he rode back and forth 3 or 4 times on the main street of Troutdale, looking for Sundial Road. Since the instructions said to turn left, he turned left at that light, and climbed the hill. When he came to Glisan, he recognized that street, so headed towards town on Glisan, then North somewhere towards the river to go in the general direction he needed to. I called his cell phone (thank you Marilyn for his number) when we got back to Home Depot and realized his car was still there, but he had left Crown Point 10 minutes before we did. He didn't hear the call, but checked his phone a little later and called me back from Sandy & 105th. We guided him to the 205 bike path and back to Home Depot, by cell phone, since he had no idea where he was. I think there are also a couple other turns not written on the cue sheet, I'll have to read thru it later to see. I'll get back to you on that :-) Otherwise, it was a wonderful day; a good ride with good friends. Thanks for getting us out there! Edna
