Unfaired Road Race
The unfaired road race was a gaudy affair. Everything from Tom Traylor's carbon fiber AWD tandem machine to Eli Mueller's BMX bike made it to the starting line. They started together, but quickly spread out into "fast" and "speed-challenged" racers. With 45 minutes scheduled for the event, some racers were clearly conserving their energy for the final laps.
Michael Wolfe and John Williams quickly broke away, clocking low-4 minute laps on the almost-2-mile track. They had just passed the Start/Finish line when the white flag was waved, signaling the final lap for all racers. This meant that they had to do 11 laps where 7 other racers only had to do 10 laps of the course.
When they finished their final lap, Michael and John and two other racers (Tom Traylor and John Climaldi) finished within 5 seconds of each other- a mass sprint to the finish line!
With everyone coming in at the same time, it took us a while to sort out who finished where. Here's the final accounting:
