Time Trial
After the other races, the time trial is simplicity itself: go out and ride five laps of the course as fast as you can.
It's simple for the racers, complicated for the scoring crew. Each racer gets their own starting time, gets the white flag after 4 laps, and gets the checkered flag when they're finished. This takes some fancy footwork on the part of the flagman, switching flags and tracking riders while pushing the button on the stopwatch and calling times to the scoring crew. It takes four arms and three sets of eyeballs.
Add to this the fact that since they were starting at one-minute intervals and the streamliners started first, some of the streamliners were finished with their laps before all of the racers had started. Steve Delaire once again cranked off consistent 3 minute 20 second laps and completed the almost 10 miles in sixteen-and-a-half minutes. In fact, all the streamliners were very fast- even Lonnie, who fell over at the start and lost about a minute getting taped back in his shell.
